Empire Fence Company Earns National Recognition for Award-Winning Hospital Project
We are proud to share some exciting news. Empire Fence Company has been recognized with a prestigious Ornamental Commercial Project Award from the American Fence Association. The award highlights our work on the behavioral health courtyard and wellness center at Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, and it reflects the level of care, precision, and innovation our team brings to every project.

A Complex Project with a Clear Purpose
This project centered on a behavioral health courtyard, which posed unique challenges. The space needed to feel safe, secure, and welcoming all at once. Our goal was to create a fencing solution that supported patient well-being while meeting strict safety requirements.
Our Specialty Commercial Team designed and installed a fully custom 14-foot Omega II Unik security fence system. Every detail of the design was intentional. The fence needed to provide strong protection while maintaining a clean, architectural look from both inside the courtyard and from the exterior.
Custom Engineering for Strength and Security
One of the standout features of this project is the double-sided Unik panel design. This approach creates a polished appearance on both sides of the fence while eliminating exposed hardware. That detail improves safety and aesthetics, which is critical in a healthcare setting.
Because of the custom design, our team engineered specially fabricated posts to handle the additional weight of the panels. These posts also had to meet strict wind-load requirements, so precision and durability were essential from the start.
Precision Installation from Start to Finish
Installation required careful coordination and a high level of accuracy. The fence was mounted on a cast-in-place concrete retaining wall with structural steel embeds. Each post had to be welded directly to these embeds while maintaining extremely tight tolerances, with less than a quarter inch of allowable variation.
The courtyard itself added another layer of complexity. Its irregular layout meant we had to design and install custom-angled posts to match the wall's shape. Every adjustment required careful planning to ensure the final result looked seamless.
Collaboration That Made It Possible
Projects like this do not happen in isolation. We worked closely with Omega II, project engineers, and the general contractor to bring everything together. Communication played a key role in the project's success, from managing long lead times for custom materials to coordinating exact installation details.
